Biography
After training as a psychiatric nurse, my interest in psychology led me to my undergraduate degree in social psychology with cognitive science (one of the first such programmes). My PhD, supervised by Josef Perner, looked at how children use theory of mind in making judgements of responsibility. I had a couple of years working in Cambridge's ethology lab where I observed children's social behaviour in nursery and at home. I then came back to Sussex, where I've enjoyed working ever since.
Role
I run the Children and Technology Lab (ChatLab), my main area of research. I teach and supervise in the areas of social cognitive development, language, reading comprehension, special needs and collaborative technology.
Community and Business
I co-manage ACORNS Sussex, the Autism community research network and run several reading and discussion . I am a primary school governor and trainee Video Interaction Guidance practitioner. I'm an associate fellow of the British Psychological Society.
