Language is what makes us human, what makes societies function, what establishes cultures, what connects – and separates – us.
Studying this BA with us, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need to investigate communication from many angles. Whether it’s how we learn languages, or how we can apply linguistics to forensic investigations, you’ll apply your expertise to real-world language challenges, and become an expert on language and communication.
You’ll join a welcoming and supportive international learning community. We help you become a researcher from your first day at university. You’ll be introduced to key concepts in English language and linguistics and learn to apply them to real-world data. And by the end of your degree, you’ll have the confidence to lead an independent project showcasing your skills.
From data analysis to critical thinking and communicating with different audiences, this degree helps you develop transferable skills. You’ll:
- get career-ready with modules on linguistic consultancy
- have the opportunity to apply for a placement year in industry
- can choose to apply to study abroad to hone your intercultural communication skills
- take electives from other subjects to open your mind to other disciplines and tailor your degree to your interests.
When you graduate, you’ll have the skills and confidence to excel in new situations and challenges. You’ll be well prepared to use your linguistic and communication skills in a wide range of careers, including digital consumer intelligence, magazine editing, online safeguarding design, and diplomatic roles.
We understand that deciding where and what to study is a very important decision. We’ll make all reasonable efforts to provide you with the courses, services and facilities described in this prospectus. However, if we need to make material changes, for example due to government or regulatory requirements, or unanticipated staff changes, we’ll let you know as soon as possible.
