Provocative Pedagogies (156X3)

Autumn teaching

On this module, you will explore and critically evaluate pedagogic approaches and methodologies from diverse learning contexts, which seek to establish democratic, inclusive and participative ways of learning.

You will balance both an exploration of the theoretical and conceptual dimensions of such pedagogies, as well as practical application and experiences. You will learn how to use different pedagogic strategies, understand why they might be used, what practices they might challenge and how to critique them.

The provocative pedagogies considered will include (amongst others):

• team-based learning
• Mantle of the Expert
• critical pedagogy
• forum theatre
• group talk
• Confucian pedagogy
• Lego Serious Play
• environmental action learning.

Where appropriate, the module includes opportunities to visit local educational institutions to observe different pedagogies in practice.
