Practice Experience with Children and Youth (840CY)
30 credits, Level 7 (Masters)
Spring teaching
On this module, you’ll have the opportunity to gain practice experience in the context of a public-, private- or voluntary-sector organisation serving children and/or young people.
Practice experience may involve:
- direct work with children and young people
- supporting an organisation through advocacy, administration or development work (for example grant writing or fundraising).
Alongside the practice experience placement, you’ll get introduced to theories and methods of reflective practice. You’ll have regular opportunities to reflect on your placements with the module tutor and your peers. You’ll be supported by the module convenor, and via peer support through regular group tutorials.
By the end of the module, you’ll have gained a new in-depth understanding of an area of child- or youth-centred practice. You’ll also be able to critically evaluate professional practice and communication using theory and research.
To undertake this module, you’ll need to satisfactorily complete an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before attending your placement. If you’re an international student, you’ll additionally need to obtain a recent criminal record certificate from your home country. A list of admissible certificates can be found on the .
