Autumn and spring teaching
This course is directly linked with your second practice placement (SWP2). You'll join a Theory, Methods and Values in Practice group that is relevant to your practice placement. Some skills workshop teaching will be shared.
During this module we will:
- critically examine theoretical concepts and disciplinary knowledge that inform assessment, planning, intervention and review in social work practice
- reflect, with creativity and imagination, on how personal experience and empirical research contribute to the development of effective social work practice in the field
- establish of the observation skills necessary for effective communication with people who use services
- explore the contested and ambiguous values and ethics of social work in the field in question, and the dynamics of power and discrimination through which they are applied or negotiated
- develop and consolidate a systematic understanding and critical awareness of a range of methods and approaches to the interprofessional context of contemporary practice.
