Biography

Dominik Piehlmaier is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Marketing (Department of Strategy and Marketing) at the ºìÐÓÊÓƵ Business School. He holds a Ph.D. in Consumer Behavior (Department of Consumer Science) with a minor in Quantitative Methods (Department of Educational Psychology) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a M.Sc. in Economics from Heidelberg University. Dominik studied at Yale (Department of Economics) and worked for the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) at Stanford (Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research).

His research focuses on overconfidence, a cognitive bias that describes the tendency to overestimate one's skills and impact on uncertain outcomes, while underestimating or ignoring the role of risk and ambiguity. Dominik's research is embedded in the judgment and decision-making literature. He applies advanced quantitative methods to experimental and large secondary data to explore the phenomenon of overconfidence and to develop feasible tools to improve the quality of human decisions under uncertainty.

Dominik's research agenda covers topics in behavioral finance, experimental economics, Bayesian inference, and analyses with missing data. He is an inducted member of Phi Kappa Phi, the oldest and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines in the United States.
