Module Outline

In this module you will be exploring the historical and cultural foundations of media and digital culture. By introducing and discussing the foundational schools of media theory, the module enables a broad understanding of the media and the key methods and approaches that have been undertaken historically to study them. This module explains key theories and theorists that influenced and shaped media and communication. After completing this module, you will have a developed an intellectual foundation for further study of media, technology and culture in later modules

Module learning outcomes

Understand, analyse and evaluate different media.

Develop a knowledge of media histories and key theoretical debates in media and communication.

Evaluate forms and practices of media, culture and communication and how they organise knowledge, experience and meaning.

Understand the interdisciplinary foundations of media and communication and the historical schools of study.
